The Combined Defence Services (CDS) Examination is conducted twice a year by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) for recruitment of graduates into the prestigious Indian Military Academy, Indian Naval Academy, Air Force Academy, and Officers Training Academy.

Academies Routing through CDS
IMA (Dehradun)
For unmarried male graduates. Permanent Commission entry into the Indian Army.
INA (Ezhimala)
For unmarried male engineering graduates. Permanent Commission entry into the Navy.
AFA (Hyderabad)
For engineering/physics/maths graduates. Permanent Commission entry into the Air Force.
OTA (Chennai)
Short Service Commission for both Men and Women across dynamic streams.
CDS Written Examination Pattern
Conducted twice a year (CDS I & CDS II). Each paper is of 2 hours duration.
